Change the Default Document Template in Word

You can change most of Word’s default options, including the blank document template. To change the font that is displayed when you open a new document, click Format on the menu, then click Font. Select the font you want to use and any other font changes and click the Default button at the bottom of the Font dialog box. Click Yes to accept the change when the Office Assistant appears. To change the margins and other page layout options, click File on the menu, then Page Setup. Make your changes and click the Default button at the bottom of the Page Setup dialog box. Click Yes to accept the change then click the New button on the toolbar to see your new document template.

To view or change other default options in Word, click Tools on the menu, then click Options. Click the various tabs to see what options you would like to change. For example, you could change where Word saves your documents from My Documents to any other folder you choose.
